--- abstract: 'Previous papers in this series of statistical mechanics of neocortical interactions (SMNI) have detailed a development from the relatively microscopic scales of neurons up to the macroscopic scales as recorded by electroencephalography (EEG), requiring an intermediate mesocolumnar scale to be developed at the scale of minicolumns ($approx 10 sup 2$ neurons) and macrocolumns ($approx 10 sup 5$ neurons). Opportunity was taken to view SMNI as sets of statistical constraints, not necessarily describing specific synaptic or neuronal mechanisms, on neuronal interactions, on some aspects of short-term memory (STM), e.g., its capacity, stability, and duration. A recently developed C-language code, PATHINT, provides a non-Monte Carlo technique for calculating the dynamic evolution of arbitrary-dimension (subject to computer resources) nonlinear Lagrangians, such as derived for the two-variable SMNI problem. Here, PATHINT is used to explicitly detail the evolution of the SMNI constraints on STM.' altloc: - http://www.ingber.com/smni94_stm.ps.gz chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: ~ conference: ~ confloc: ~ contact_email: ~ creators_id: [] creators_name: - family: Ingber given: Lester honourific: '' lineage: '' date: 1994 date_type: published datestamp: 1999-06-15 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/00/97 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: ~ edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: [] eprint_status: archive eprintid: 97 fileinfo: /style/images/fileicons/application_postscript.png;/97/2/smni94_stm.ps full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: pub issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: 0 item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: ~ lastmod: 2011-03-11 08:53:40 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: show note: ~ number: 5B pagerange: 4652-4664 pubdom: FALSE publication: Physical Review E publisher: ~ refereed: TRUE referencetext: ~ relation_type: [] relation_uri: [] reportno: ~ rev_number: 10 series: ~ source: ~ status_changed: 2007-09-12 16:23:17 subjects: - comp-neuro-sci - comp-sci-stat-model succeeds: ~ suggestions: ~ sword_depositor: ~ sword_slug: ~ thesistype: ~ title: 'Statistical mechanics of neocortical interactions: Path-integral evolution of short-term memory' type: journalp userid: 73 volume: 49
