--- abstract: 'Under what format(s) are spoken words memorized by the brain? Are word forms stored as abstract phonological representations? Or rather, are they stored as detailed acoustic-phonetic representations? (For example as a set of acoustic exemplars associated with each word). We present a series of experiments whose results point to the existence of prelexical phonological processes in word recognition and suggest that spoken words are accessed using a phonological code.' altloc: - http://www.ehess.fr/centres/lscp/persons/pallier/papers/Swap2000/swap1.pdf chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: 29th-31st May 2000 conference: Workshop on Spoken Word Access Processes (SWAP) confloc: 'Max-Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, Nijmegen,The Netherlands.' contact_email: ~ creators_id: [] creators_name: - family: Pallier given: Christophe honourific: '' lineage: '' date: 2000 date_type: published datestamp: 2000-08-11 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/09/29 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: ~ edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: - family: Cutler given: Anne honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: McQueen given: James honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Zondervan given: Rian honourific: '' lineage: '' eprint_status: archive eprintid: 929 fileinfo: /style/images/fileicons/application_pdf.png;/929/3/swap1.pdf full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: pub issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: 0 item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: 'word recognition, phonology, phonetics, acoustics' lastmod: 2011-03-11 08:54:22 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: show note: ~ number: ~ pagerange: 159-162 pubdom: FALSE publication: ~ publisher: ~ refereed: FALSE referencetext: ~ relation_type: [] relation_uri: [] reportno: ~ rev_number: 12 series: ~ source: ~ status_changed: 2007-09-12 16:35:34 subjects: - cog-psy - psy-ling succeeds: ~ suggestions: ~ sword_depositor: ~ sword_slug: ~ thesistype: ~ title: 'Word recognition: do we need phonological representations?' type: confpaper userid: 406 volume: ~
