Chow %J American Psychologist %T Some Reservations About Power Analysis %X This is a critique of Cohen's (1990) claim that the power of a statistical test 'is the probability that it will yield statistically significant results' (p. 1). Two putative advantages of using power analysis are examined. It is shown that H0 is not used as a categorical proposition descriptive of the world. Using significance tests is compatible with making rational judgment. %K Statistical power, Conditional probability, Type I error, Type II error, Conditional proposition, Sampling distribution, The null hypothesis as the consequent of a conditional proposition %P 1088-1089 %V 46 %D 1991 %L cogprints830
