--- abstract: "A critique of Harris and Rosenthal's (1985) 31 meta-analyses of the mediation of interpersonal expectancy effects raises two issues. First, the study of interpersonal expectancy effects requires an examination of the expectancy-mediator-changes (B-C-D) chain in toto. Harris and Rosenthal's meta-analytic exercise fails to substantiate such a chain, and also fails to enhance understanding of the subtle and unwitting nature of the expectancy-mediator (B-C) and the mediator-changes (C-D) links. Second, mixing studies of uneven quality in a meta-analysis still appears to be a cause for concern." altloc: - http://uregina.ca/~chowsl/pub_papers/Meta31.htm chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: ~ conference: ~ confloc: ~ contact_email: ~ creators_id: [] creators_name: - family: Chow given: Siu L. honourific: '' lineage: '' date: 1987 date_type: published datestamp: 1999-08-22 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/08/27 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: ~ edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: [] eprint_status: archive eprintid: 827 fileinfo: /style/images/fileicons/text_html.png;/827/1/Meta31.htm full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: pub issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: 0 item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: 'meta-analysis, inter-personal expectancy effects, the"expectancy-mediator-changes" chain, the "subtle andunwitting" expectancy effects, the commensurability problem' lastmod: 2011-03-11 08:54:19 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: show note: ~ number: 1 pagerange: 95-100 pubdom: FALSE publication: Journal of Psychology publisher: ~ refereed: TRUE referencetext: ~ relation_type: [] relation_uri: [] reportno: ~ rev_number: 8 series: ~ source: ~ status_changed: 2007-09-12 16:34:53 subjects: - cog-psy succeeds: ~ suggestions: ~ sword_depositor: ~ sword_slug: ~ thesistype: ~ title: Some Reflections on Harris and Rosenthal's 31 Meta-analyses type: journalp userid: 141 volume: 121
