--- abstract: "Neuroeconomic conditions for “rational addiction” (Becker and Murphy, 1988) have\r\nbeen unknown. This paper derived the conditions for “rational addiction” by utilizing a\r\nnonlinear time-perception theory of “hyperbolic” discounting, which is mathematically\r\nequivalent to the q-exponential intertemporal choice model based on Tsallis' statistics. It\r\nis shown that (i) Arrow-Pratt measure for temporal cognition corresponds to the degree\r\nof irrationality (i.e., Prelec’s “decreasing impatience” parameter of temporal\r\ndiscounting) and (ii) rationality in addicts is controlled by a nondimensionalization\r\nparameter of the logarithmic time-perception function. Furthermore, the present theory\r\nillustrates the possibility that addictive drugs increase impulsivity via dopaminergic\r\nneuroadaptation without increasing irrationality. Future directions in the application of\r\nthe model to studies in neuroeconomics are discussed." altloc: [] chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: ~ conference: ~ confloc: ~ contact_email: ~ creators_id: [] creators_name: - family: Takahashi given: Taiki honourific: Ph.D lineage: '' date: 2011-11-22 date_type: completed datestamp: 2011-12-16 00:08:51 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/77/47 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: 0 edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: [] eprint_status: archive eprintid: 7747 fileinfo: application/pdf;http://cogprints.org/7747/1/neuroeconomics%20addiction%20time.pdf full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: ~ issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: ~ item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: "Neuroeconomics; Econophysics; Addiction; Dopamine; Rationality; Tsallis'\r\nstatistics" lastmod: 2011-12-16 00:08:51 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: show note: ~ number: ~ pagerange: ~ pubdom: FALSE publication: ~ publisher: ~ refereed: TRUE referencetext: "Anteneodo C, Tsallis C, Martinez AS.
