--- abstract: 'Morrison and Ellis (1995) claim that most evidence of frequency effects in word recognition is not genuine but an artefact of the age at which the words have been acquired. The finding that age of acquisition (AOA) has a reliable independent effect on word naming is replicated for the Dutch language. However, it is also shown that the effect of word frequency remains reliable with AOA controlled. A possible interpretation is that the English studies have been based on retrospective student ratings, whereas in the present study a more on-line measure of AOA was used.' altloc: [] chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: ~ conference: ~ confloc: ~ contact_email: ~ creators_id: - marc.brysbaert@ugent.be creators_name: - family: Brysbaert given: M. honourific: '' lineage: '' date: 1996 date_type: published datestamp: 2010-07-29 01:47:34 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/68/89 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: 0 edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: - family: Brysbaert given: M. honourific: '' lineage: '' eprint_status: archive eprintid: 6889 fileinfo: /style/images/fileicons/application_pdf.png;/6889/1/Brysbaert_EJCP_1996.pdf full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: pub issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: 0 item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: 'age-of-acquisition, frequency, word recognition' lastmod: 2011-03-11 08:57:38 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: show note: ~ number: ~ pagerange: 185-193 pubdom: TRUE publication: European Journal of Cognitive Psychology publisher: ~ refereed: TRUE referencetext: ~ relation_type: [] relation_uri: [] reportno: ~ rev_number: 18 series: ~ source: ~ status_changed: 2010-07-29 01:47:34 subjects: - cog-psy succeeds: ~ suggestions: ~ sword_depositor: ~ sword_slug: ~ thesistype: ~ title: Word frequency affects naming latency in Dutch when age of acquisition is controlled. type: journalp userid: 10621 volume: 8
