title: Movement, Action, and Situation: Presence in Virtual Environments creator: Carassa, Antonella creator: Morganti, Francesca creator: Tirassa, Maurizio subject: Applied Cognitive Psychology subject: Cognitive Psychology subject: Human Computer Interaction subject: Perceptual Cognitive Psychology subject: Epistemology subject: Philosophy of Mind description: Presence is commonly defined as the subjective feeling of "being there". It has been mainly conceived of as deriving from immersion, interaction, and social and narrative involvement with suitable technology. We argue that presence depends on a suitable integration of aspects relevant to an agent's movement and perception, to her actions, and to her conception of the overall situation in which she finds herself, as well as on how these aspects mesh with the possibilities for action afforded in the interaction with the virtual environment. publisher: Editorial Universidad Politécnica de Valencia contributor: Alcañiz Raya, M. contributor: Rey Solaz, B. date: 2004 type: Conference Paper type: PeerReviewed format: application/pdf identifier: http://cogprints.org/6815/1/2004-Presence-Valencia.pdf identifier: Carassa, Antonella and Morganti, Francesca and Tirassa, Maurizio (2004) Movement, Action, and Situation: Presence in Virtual Environments.
