--- abstract: 'Abstract. Volume visualizations can have drastically different appearances when viewed using a variety of transfer functions. A problem then occurs in trying to organize many different views on one screen. We conducted a user study of four layout techniques for these multiple views. We timed participants as they separated different aspects of volume data for both time-invariant and time-variant data using one of four different layout schemes. The layout technique had no impact on performance when used with time-invariant data. With time-variant data, however, the multiple view layouts all resulted in better times than did a single view interface. Surprisingly, different layout techniques for multiple views resulted in no noticeable difference in user performance. In this paper, we describe our study and present the results, which could be used in the design of future volume visualization software to improve the productivity of the scientists who use it.' altloc: - http://steveharoz.com/research/layout/layout.pdf - http://www.springerlink.com/content/mu24vn65lm3l1143/?p=3a96dff5bed74dbdb5bf1ecdad6947c0&pi=1 chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: 'November 6-8, 2006' conference: Advances in Visual Computing confloc: 'Lake Tahoe, NV, USA' contact_email: ~ creators_id: [] creators_name: - family: Lewis given: Daniel honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Haroz given: Steve honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Ma given: Kwan-Liu honourific: '' lineage: '' date: 2006 date_type: published datestamp: 2009-03-04 03:15:49 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/63/77 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: ~ edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: - family: Bebis given: George honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Boyle given: Richard honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Parvin given: Bahram honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Koracin given: Darko honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Remagnino given: Paolo honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Nefian given: Ara V. honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Gopi given: Meenakshisundaram honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Pascucci given: Valerio honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Zara given: Jiri honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Molineros given: Jose honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Theisel given: Holger honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Malzbender given: Thomas honourific: '' lineage: '' eprint_status: archive eprintid: 6377 fileinfo: /style/images/fileicons/application_pdf.png;/6377/1/layout.pdf full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: pub issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: 0 item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: 'Visualization, User Study, Volume, Multiple Views' lastmod: 2011-03-11 08:57:19 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: show note: ~ number: 2 pagerange: 215-226 pubdom: FALSE publication: ~ publisher: Springer refereed: TRUE referencetext: "Abram, G., Treinish, L.
