--- abstract: In this special issue of Minds and Machines ("Situations and Artificial Intelligence") we take a close look at recent situation-theoretic research which has mostly originated within a philosophical framework but promises to have strong connotations for Artificial Intelligence workers. The seven papers which make up this special issue (three of the papers appear in Minds and Machines 9(1)) demonstrate the advantages of the situation-based approach towards problems with a definite AI flavor. altloc: - http://www.cs.bilkent.edu.tr/~akman/jour-papers/mam/intro.ps chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: ~ conference: ~ confloc: ~ contact_email: ~ creators_id: [] creators_name: - family: Akman given: Varol honourific: '' lineage: '' date: 1998-12 date_type: published datestamp: 1999-05-31 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/05/38 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: ~ edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: [] eprint_status: archive eprintid: 538 fileinfo: /style/images/fileicons/application_postscript.png;/538/2/intro.ps full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: pub issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: 0 item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: 'situation theory, situation semantics.' lastmod: 2011-03-11 08:54:02 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: show note: ~ number: 4 pagerange: 475-477 pubdom: FALSE publication: 'Minds and Machines: Journal for Artificial Intelligence, Philosophy, and Cognitive Science' publisher: ~ refereed: TRUE referencetext: ~ relation_type: [] relation_uri: [] reportno: ~ rev_number: 10 series: ~ source: ~ status_changed: 2007-09-12 16:30:28 subjects: - comp-sci-art-intel - ling-sem - phil-lang - phil-logic - phil-mind succeeds: ~ suggestions: ~ sword_depositor: ~ sword_slug: ~ thesistype: ~ title: Guest Editor's Introduction type: journalp userid: 178 volume: 8
