--- abstract: 'It has been claimed that the frequency eOEect in visual word naming is an artefact of age-of-acquisition: Words are named faster not because they are encountered more often in texts, but because they have been acquired earlier. In a series of experiments using immediate naming, lexical decision, and masked priming, we found that frequency had a clear eOEect in lexical tasks when age-of-acquisition is controlled for. At the same time, age-ofacquisition was a significant variable in all tasks, whereas imageability had no effect. These results corroborate findings previously reported in English and Dutch.' altloc: [] chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: ~ conference: ~ confloc: ~ contact_email: ~ creators_id: [] creators_name: - family: Brysbaert given: Marc honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Lange given: Marielle honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: van Wijnendaele given: Ilse honourific: '' lineage: '' date: 2000 date_type: published datestamp: 2006-04-16 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/48/37 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: ~ edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: [] eprint_status: archive eprintid: 4837 fileinfo: /style/images/fileicons/application_pdf.png;/4837/1/Brysbaert_et_al_2000_ECP.pdf full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: pub issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: 0 item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: ~ lastmod: 2011-03-11 08:56:23 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: show note: ~ number: ~ pagerange: 65-85 pubdom: TRUE publication: European Journal of Cognitive Psychology publisher: ~ refereed: TRUE referencetext: ~ relation_type: [] relation_uri: [] reportno: ~ rev_number: 12 series: ~ source: ~ status_changed: 2007-09-12 17:02:52 subjects: - cog-psy succeeds: ~ suggestions: ~ sword_depositor: ~ sword_slug: ~ thesistype: ~ title: 'The effects of age-of-acquisition and frequency-of-occurrence in visual word recognition: Further evidence from the Dutch language' type: journalp userid: 4681 volume: 12
