--- abstract: 'At the heart of natural language processing is the understanding of context dependent meanings. This paper presents a preliminary model of formal contexts based on situation theory. It also gives a worked-out example to show the use of contexts in lifting, i.e., how propositions holding in a particular context transform when they are moved to another context. This is useful in NLP applications where preserving meaning is a desideratum.' altloc: - http://www.cs.bilkent.edu.tr/~akman/jour-papers/ci/cipaper.ps chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: ~ conference: ~ confloc: ~ contact_email: ~ creators_id: [] creators_name: - family: Akman given: Varol honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Surav given: Mehmet honourific: '' lineage: '' date: 1997-08 date_type: published datestamp: 1998-06-16 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/04/60 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: ~ edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: [] eprint_status: archive eprintid: 460 fileinfo: /style/images/fileicons/application_postscript.png;/460/2/cipaper.ps full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: pub issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: 0 item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: 'context, co-text, lifting, knowledge representation, commonsense reasoning, natural language processing, situation theory, logic, pragmatics, semantics.' lastmod: 2011-03-11 08:53:58 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: show note: ~ number: 3 pagerange: 427-438 pubdom: FALSE publication: 'Computational Intelligence: An International Journal' publisher: ~ refereed: TRUE referencetext: ~ relation_type: [] relation_uri: [] reportno: ~ rev_number: 10 series: ~ source: ~ status_changed: 2007-09-12 16:28:20 subjects: - comp-sci-art-intel - comp-sci-lang - ling-comput - ling-prag - ling-sem - phil-lang - phil-logic succeeds: ~ suggestions: ~ sword_depositor: ~ sword_slug: ~ thesistype: ~ title: The Use of Situation Theory in Context Modeling type: journalp userid: 178 volume: 13
