--- abstract: |- Abstract - Method of elastic maps ( http://cogprints.ecs.soton.ac.uk/archive/00003088/ and http://cogprints.ecs.soton.ac.uk/archive/00003919/ ) allows us to construct efficiently 1D, 2D and 3D non-linear approximations to the principal manifolds with different topology (piece of plane, sphere, torus etc.) and to project data onto it. We describe the idea of the method and demonstrate its applications in analysis of genetic sequences. The animated 3D-scatters are available on our web-site: http://www.ihes.fr/~zinovyev/7clusters/ We found the universal cluster structure of genetic sequences, and demonstrated the thin structure of these clusters for coding regions. This thin structure is related to different translational efficiency. altloc: [] chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: 'July 20-24, 2003' conference: IJCNN 2003 confloc: 'Portland, Oregon, USA' contact_email: ~ creators_id: [] creators_name: - family: Gorban given: Alexander N. honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Zinovyev given: Andrey Yu. honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Wunsch given: Donald C. honourific: '' lineage: '' date: 2003 date_type: published datestamp: 2004-11-29 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/39/61 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: ~ edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: [] eprint_status: archive eprintid: 3961 fileinfo: /style/images/fileicons/application_pdf.png;/3961/1/IJCNN2003.pdf full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: pub issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: 0 item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: 'SOM, Elastic net, Data modeling, Genome clusters, Genetic text, Translational efficiency' lastmod: 2011-03-11 08:55:44 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: show note: ~ number: ~ pagerange: ~ pubdom: FALSE publication: ~ publisher: ~ refereed: TRUE referencetext: |- [1] Gorban A.N., Pitenko A.A., Zinov'ev A.Y., Wunsch D.C. 2001. “Visualization of any data using elastic map method.” Smart Engineering System Design, V.11, p. 363-368.
