--- abstract: |- In this paper we expose the theoretical background underlying our current research. This consists in the development of behaviour-based knowledge systems, for closing the gaps between behaviour-based and knowledge-based systems, and also between the understandings of the phenomena they model. We expose the requirements and stages for developing behaviour-based knowledge systems and discuss their limits. We believe that these are necessary conditions for the development of higher order cognitive capacities, in artificial and natural cognitive systems. altloc: - http://www.cogs.susx.ac.uk/users/carlos/doc/Gershenson-BBKS-Epigenetics.pdf chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: 'August 10-11, 2002' conference: |- Second International Workshop on Epigenetic Robotics: Modeling Cognitive Development in Robotic Systems confloc: 'Edinburgh, Scotland' contact_email: ~ creators_id: [] creators_name: - family: Gershenson given: Carlos honourific: '' lineage: '' date: 2002 date_type: published datestamp: 2002-07-15 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/23/20 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: ~ edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: [] eprint_status: archive eprintid: 2320 fileinfo: /style/images/fileicons/application_pdf.png;/2320/3/Gershenson%2DBBKS%2DEpigenetics.pdf full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: inpress issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: 0 item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: 'evolution of cognition, behaviour-based systems, knowledge-based systems' lastmod: 2011-03-11 08:54:57 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: show note: ~ number: ~ pagerange: ~ pubdom: FALSE publication: ~ publisher: ~ refereed: TRUE referencetext: |- In this paper we expose the theoretical background underlying our current research.
