--- abstract: 'Some recent studies in computational linguistics have aimed to take advantage of various cues presented by punctuation marks. This short survey is intended to summarise these research efforts and additionally, to outline a current perspective for the usage and functions of punctuation marks. We conclude by presenting an information-based framework for punctuation, influenced by treatments of several related phenomena in computational linguistics.' altloc: - http://www.cs.bilkent.edu.tr/~akman/jour-papers/chum/compsingle.ps chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: ~ conference: ~ confloc: ~ contact_email: ~ creators_id: [] creators_name: - family: Say given: Bilge honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Akman given: Varol honourific: '' lineage: '' date: 1997 date_type: published datestamp: 1998-06-16 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/01/98 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: ~ edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: [] eprint_status: archive eprintid: 198 fileinfo: /style/images/fileicons/application_postscript.png;/198/2/compsingle.ps full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: pub issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: 0 item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: 'discourse, information, natural language syntax, natural language semantics, punctuation, DRT (discourse representation theory), RST (rhetorical structure theory), SDRT (segmented discourse representation theory).' lastmod: 2011-03-11 08:53:43 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: show note: ~ number: 6 pagerange: 457-469 pubdom: FALSE publication: Computers and the Humanities publisher: ~ refereed: TRUE referencetext: ~ relation_type: [] relation_uri: [] reportno: ~ rev_number: 10 series: ~ source: ~ status_changed: 2007-09-12 16:25:01 subjects: - comp-sci-art-intel - comp-sci-lang - hist-ling - ling-comput - ling-prag - ling-sem - ling-syntax - phil-logic succeeds: ~ suggestions: ~ sword_depositor: ~ sword_slug: ~ thesistype: ~ title: Current Approaches to Punctuation in Computational Linguistics type: journalp userid: 178 volume: 30
