--- abstract: |- The goal in this paper is to show how the classification of phonetic features to phonemes can be acquired. This classificational process is modeled by a supervised feature selection method, based on adaptive distance measures. Exception handling is incorporated into a learned distance function by pointwise additions of Boolean functions for individual pattern combinations. An important result is the differentiation of rules and exceptions during learning. altloc: - http://www.in.tum.de/~scheler/pub/emcsr.html chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: September 1994 conference: European Meeting on Systems and Cybernetics confloc: Vienna contact_email: ~ creators_id: [] creators_name: - family: Scheler given: Gabriele honourific: '' lineage: '' date: 1994 date_type: published datestamp: 2001-05-08 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/14/83 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: ~ edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: - family: Trappl given: Robert honourific: '' lineage: '' eprint_status: archive eprintid: 1483 fileinfo: /style/images/fileicons/application_postscript.png;/1483/2/scheler_phonology.ps full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: pub issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: 0 item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: 'phonetic features, distance metrics, outliers, classification' lastmod: 2012-11-09 19:35:15 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: no_search note: ~ number: ~ pagerange: ~ pubdom: FALSE publication: ~ publisher: Springer refereed: TRUE referencetext: ~ relation_type: [] relation_uri: [] reportno: ~ rev_number: 11 series: ~ source: ~ status_changed: 2007-09-12 16:38:01 subjects: - comp-sci-speech succeeds: ~ suggestions: ~ sword_depositor: ~ sword_slug: ~ thesistype: ~ title: 'Feature Selection with Exception Handling - An Example from Phonology' type: confpaper userid: 1760 volume: ~
