--- abstract: 'In general, information about the environment (for instance a target) is not instantaneously available for the nervous system. A minimal delay for visual information to affect the movement of the hand is about 110 ms. However, if the movement of a target is predictable, humans can pursue it with zero delay. To make this prediction, information about the speed of the target is necessary. Our results show that this information is used with a delay of about 200 ms. We discuss that oculomotor efference is a likely source of information for this prediction.' altloc: - http://www.eur.nl/fgg/fys/people/smeets/EWEP5(1998)1.pdf chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: July 7-10 conference: 'EWEP 5 - Advances in perception-action coupling' confloc: 'Pont a Mousson, France' contact_email: ~ creators_id: [] creators_name: - family: Smeets given: Jeroen B.J. honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Brenner given: Eli honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: de Lussanet given: Marc H.E. honourific: '' lineage: '' date: 1998 date_type: published datestamp: 2000-05-18 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/01/48 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: ~ edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: - family: Bril given: B. honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Ledebt given: A. honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Ditrich given: G. honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Roby-Brami given: A. honourific: '' lineage: '' eprint_status: archive eprintid: 148 fileinfo: /style/images/fileicons/application_pdf.png;/148/3/EWEP5(1998)1.pdf full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: pub issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: 0 item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: 'human, arm movements, delay, latency, reaction time, speed, velocity, prediction, efference copy, eye movements, smooth pursuit' lastmod: 2011-03-11 08:53:42 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: show note: ~ number: ~ pagerange: 36-40 pubdom: FALSE publication: ~ publisher: 'Éditions EDK, Paris.' refereed: FALSE referencetext: ~ relation_type: [] relation_uri: [] reportno: ~ rev_number: 12 series: ~ source: ~ status_changed: 2007-09-12 16:24:20 subjects: - cog-psy - neuro-physio - psy-phys succeeds: ~ suggestions: ~ sword_depositor: ~ sword_slug: ~ thesistype: ~ title: Visuomotor delays when hitting running spiders. type: confpaper userid: 463 volume: ~
